Black Painting

$500
LIMITED EDITION

We are pleased to present a series of 5 limited-edition paintings in exclusive collaboration with the artist Bozidar Brazda. These hand-painted, all black 8” X 10” canvases are made using a pigment consisting of ground, charred wood (sourced and produced by the artist from fallen trees on his Woodstock, NY property). With their slightly textured, matte black surface, they suggest both the shou sugi ban (焼杉板/charred wood) technique found in rural Japanese homes and the minimalist black works of Donald Judd and Louise Nevelson. The paintings hint at the idea of 'clothing' our homes as we do our bodies, i.e., in the beauty of black.

Bozidar Brazda was born in 1972 in Cambridge, Canada. He lives and works in Woodstock, NY and New York City. He has exhibited his work at The MoMA, The Whitney Museum, Zwirner Gallery, and The Kitchen. His work has been featured in vogue.com, W MagazineInterview MagazineArtforumThe New York TimesArchitectural Digest (FR), and artnet.com.
